{"id":379459,"date":"2014-07-17T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-07-17T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staging.annahelizabeth.com\/index.php\/2014\/07\/17\/living-the-dream\/"},"modified":"2014-07-17T10:00:00","modified_gmt":"2014-07-17T10:00:00","slug":"living-the-dream","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.annahelizabeth.com\/index.php\/2014\/07\/17\/living-the-dream\/","title":{"rendered":"Living the Dream"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/annahelizabeth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Living-the-Dream.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/annahelizabeth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Living-the-Dream.jpg\" height=\"320\" width=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">My children have always lamented the fact that I cannot go anywhere without running into someone I know.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">Big Guy has proclaimed more than once, \u201cMy mother will talk to any random stranger.\u201d<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">Which means that everywhere I go I am always taking pause to converse with another human being.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">Which means my children have often found themselves staring blankly off into space or at the tile squares in the vegetable aisle\u2026or when they grew older, heading to the department of their own choosing or waiting out boredom out in the car.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">Oh, they\u2019d smile at the other person and respond to questions about how they are doing, but, as is the way with kids, when the conversation changed they were ready to move on as well.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">\u201cWhat\u2019s new?\u201d and \u201cHow\u2019s the family?\u201d are two of the first questions we often ask when catching up with someone we haven\u2019t seen in a while.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">Now, with two children away at college, one of the first inquiries is this, \u201cAre the kids home from college?\u201d<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">To which I reply, \u201cFave has come and gone. Beauty\u2019s things are at the house and she makes an occasional appearance.\u201d<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">If you have newly-out-on-their-own children, you know how it is: They fly in, drop their bags, and rush back out.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">\u201cThey\u2019re living the dream,\u201d I say to the inquirer.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">Living the dream. Which interpreted means: Coming and going as they choose. Having the best of both worlds, the freedom of an adult without all of the financial and obligatory responsibilities.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">Being someone who likes to have her proverbial cake and eat it, too, I get this.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">But after I last made that humorous quip, I began really pondering that statement.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">Aren\u2019t we all living the dream?<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">I have heard that we dream every single night, though we often don\u2019t have any recollection once we wake.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">Most of our days are like that, we just sort of plod along, changing diapers, washing dishes, driving to work and scouts and sporting events, gathering with friends for no reason other than to catch up and spend a bit of adult time.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">The days and weeks and months go by and they just are, hours spinning themselves into our existence.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">Then there are those nightmares.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">As a teenager I had two recurring nightmares, both of which resurfaced after I found out about the affair between my best friend and Warren.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">I was running for my life, my heart pulse throbbing in every nerve fiber of my body, running through the forest I knew intimately. Suddenly, I heard dogs barking and realized I wasn\u2019t going to be able to outrun my assailants, so I shimmied to the top of a tree, where I\u2019d be hidden from sight. Just as I was catching my breath, the canines began clawing and baying at the base of the tree\u2026 I slid down the wooden pole and collapsed in a heap of defeat before I woke, drained and fatigued from the emotional and physical struggle.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">Warren occasionally has dreams that we are fighting, and when he wakes up, those emotions are still at the surface, until he realizes the residual effect.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">There are those random and bizarre dreams, the ones where our surroundings or the people see are as we know them, but then there is always something that doesn\u2019t make sense, something that tells us the occurrence is a figment of our imagination.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">They are a bit like that word that we can\u2019t remember, even when it is right on the tip of our tongue, or that dilemma we can\u2019t seem to wrap our heads around.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">And then, there are those joyous dreams, images of activities with our loved ones, or those where we are living out our greatest desires.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">Those moments, even though subconscious, are part of what feeds our happy.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">Kind of gives whole new perspective to that phrase <i>living the dream<\/i>, huh?<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">Life is a collection of all types of events, what I call the good, the bad, and the mundane\u2026<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">Looks like we\u2019re all living the dream, day in and day out, casting our lines into the universe&#8217;s seas, living life in all its many facets\u2026<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">How are you living the dream right now?<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">Until next we meet again, yours in healing, hope, and happiness\u2026<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: \"Verdana\",\"sans-serif\";\">     <\/span><b><span style=\"color: #d99594; font-family: \"ParkAvenue BT\"; font-size: 24.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: \"MV Boli\"; mso-themecolor: accent2; mso-themetint: 153;\">~AE<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"color: #d99594; font-family: \"ParkAvenue BT\"; font-size: 24.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: \"MV Boli\"; mso-themecolor: accent2; mso-themetint: 153;\"><br \/><\/span><\/b><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: 'Cataneo BT'; font-size: 24pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/annahelizabeth.comsaying-goodbye\/\"><span style=\"color: #ea9999;\">Soon\u2026<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div>p.s.
