So precise in the way it captures life\u2019s essence.<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
In the last three days, I\u2019ve encountered numerous stories with both those elements.<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
Here is the world<\/i>.<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
This HuffPost Politics story<\/span><\/a> discusses Ann Romney\u2019s miscarriage. The reporter mentions that presidential candidate Mitt and his wife\u2014parents to five and grandparents to nineteen\u2014have never publicly discussed this issue, despite being open about the potential First Lady\u2019s cancer and multiple sclerosis.<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
A woman who connected with me via these posts writes a blog where she speaks about being the mother of four children.<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
As I scanned her site to learn more about her, I discovered the photo of a fifth child, one who died within a week of birth.<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
A woman who found my blog told me that two of her friends recently lost children.<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know what to say to them,\u201d is a common response.<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
Beautiful and terrible things will happen<\/i>.<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
Here is the world<\/i>.<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
Curious.<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
Why would Ann and Mitt Romney speak openly about The big C <\/i>and MS, and keep quiet about miscarriage?<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
Why would a mother headline only four children, but include a picture of a fifth\u2014her deceased\u2014in her introduction?<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
Why would I question repeatedly if including a photo of my Gavin would scare people away or repulse them?<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
Because our American world deems the death of a child \u201cthe worst loss.\u201d<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
Because those who first come to hear our stories say, \u201cI could never<\/i> survive.\u201d<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
Because I have no images of my son when he was alive and I fear people will find this vision of an otherwise perfect newborn too haunting.<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
Don\u2019t be afraid<\/i>, I want to say.<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
Don\u2019t run away.<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
Yes, it\u2019s a terrible thing.<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
Horrific, I imagine my son\u2019s asphyxiation to be.<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
Horrible, the death of any living parent\u2019s child. No matter the time, place, or cause…<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
But potentially not the worst possible thing that could go wrong in this world.<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
Contrary to popular belief, it is also beautiful and touching and teeming with joy, for he could not have died, had he not lived outside of my imagination.<\/div>\n

Though I am surmising, I\u2019ll bet these other two women recognized the beauty of their pregnancies as much as I did, the amazing feat of sperm and egg coming together.<\/div>\n
