{"id":379958,"date":"2016-11-28T23:36:17","date_gmt":"2016-11-28T23:36:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staging.annahelizabeth.com\/index.php\/2016\/11\/28\/i-am-everyday-people\/"},"modified":"2016-11-28T23:36:17","modified_gmt":"2016-11-28T23:36:17","slug":"i-am-everyday-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.annahelizabeth.com\/index.php\/2016\/11\/28\/i-am-everyday-people\/","title":{"rendered":"I Am Everyday People"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dearest Journeyer,<\/p>\n<p>Last week was a mixed bag of emotional lows and highs&#8230;times of defeat, redemption, depression, dialogue, desire, and celebration&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s so hard to put my finger on the pulse of the past seven days, but as I scrolled through the week&#8217;s images, one thing stood out: a short clip of Sly and the Family Stones hit song, <em>Everyday People<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a song about acceptance of who we are&#8230;our mistakes, our successes, our race and color and social circles&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Last week I was everyday people, Journeyer&#8230;up and down and all around&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I cried tears of sadness&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I smiled at a toddler&#8217;s curious nature as she explored my home and the look of awe in her eyes as we gazed upon the freshly lit Christmas tree.<\/p>\n<p>I laughed at the silly antics of my children as we decorated that tree and my heart healed as we revisited the many ornament&#8217;s origins.<\/p>\n<p>My spirit soared when I spotted the town&#8217;s holiday wreaths and decorations.<\/p>\n<p>My soul expanded infinitely as I realized in meditation that I could sit with fear, see the inferno it felt like inside of me, and then watch it disappear as if in a puff of smoke when I learned that it had no real hold over me.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-10895 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/annahelizabeth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Music-is-what-feelings-sound-like.--300x300.png\" alt=\"-Music is what feelings sound like.-\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A fresh bouquet of autumn flowers&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Music and a massage&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The smell and flavor of the food, the camaraderie of the company around our table, and the stories being shared with the next generation.<\/p>\n<p>Christmas tree scented wax&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Big Guy making the apple pie for our Thanksgiving dinner&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Long, esoteric talks with Fave about all things spiritual&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>And a close, genuine hug from Beauty that signaled a long-anticipated ease between us&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Professional progress&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Connecting with those of you who reached out to cheer this work on and to share your own heartaches and healing&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Inspiration I found in your social media posts and shares&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Abundant sunshine&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Walks in the great outdoors&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Fresh white snow&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Hallmark feel-good movies&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Dinner and cards and catching up with some friends we haven&#8217;t hung out with in quite a while&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Football. Not for me, but for Warren. He&#8217;s been a Dallas Cowboys fan since he was a little boy. He&#8217;s stood by them win, lose, or draw, so much so that I thought about contacting the manager the last two years when they weren&#8217;t doing so well to let them know they had solid fans and to see about getting a backstage pass if I purchased tickets. Sadly that never happened and with them winning now, I&#8217;m guessing everybody and their brother are lining up for freebies and special events.<\/p>\n<p>Seeing that boyish happiness on my man&#8217;s face at how well his team did in last week&#8217;s game was nothing shy of heartwarming.<\/p>\n<p>Seeing my children converse and carry on in fun and endearing ways.<\/p>\n<p>Recognizing that all my hard work is paying off in big ways. I am able to notice triggers faster, am more readily able to distinguish my energy from that of others, and I am able to process all of those things much more quickly, reducing those unsightly and negative knee-jerk reactions.<\/p>\n<p>[Tweet theme=&#8221;basic-white&#8221;]I am everyday people, Journeyer, fabulously flawed, forever growing and loving and learning and teaching&#8230;and accepting&#8230;[\/Tweet]<\/p>\n<p>I love you in all your rawness and realness, too, Neighbor.
