And sometimes it can be downright hilarious…in a twisted sort of way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My first two children were delivered by cesarean section. Thanks to my high-risk specialist, my next two were vaginal deliveries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That third birth came with its fair share of challenges \u2014 one being hemorrhoids so bad I couldn\u2019t sit for weeks without one of those donut pillows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And here\u2019s the kicker\u2026 those little annoyances never left.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After years of putting up with them, I finally decided to ask my doctor about removal. She referred me to a proctologist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When I arrived for my appointment, the receptionist asked for my insurance card. As I handed it over, I realized I\u2019d given her my dental card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOh, wait!\u201d I said. \u201cWrong card \u2014 we\u2019re looking at a different part of my body than my teeth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A few seconds later, she looked up, chuckled, and said, \u201cI just got that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since all the paperwork had been filled out in advance, the doctor knew why I was there \u2014 but in true doc fashion, he came in, sat down, and said, \u201cSo, tell me what\u2019s going on.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With a half-grin, I replied, \u201cWell\u2026 when I delivered my daughter, I ended up with massive hemorrhoids that have been with me for decades years. I finally decided to get over my embarrassment and see if something can be done about them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He smiled, and gave a slight nod of his head. I\u2019m pretty sure there was a silent snicker in there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And honestly \u2014 is there any delicate way to talk about that?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Humor may not cure everything, but when we\u2019re willing to lean into it \u2014 even in life\u2019s messiest moments \u2014 it can help us heal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
